SLP 207 : Introduction to Audiology

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of audiology, with a focus on the role of the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) in supporting audiological services. Topics include the anatomy and physiology of the auditory system, types and causes of hearing loss, basic audiometric testing procedures, hearing screening protocols, amplification and assistive listening devices, and the impact of hearing disorders on communication and language development. Emphasis is placed on interprofessional collaboration, cultural competence, and ethical responsibilities when working with individuals with hearing loss across the lifespan.
