SLP 103 : Phonetics and Phonology

This course introduces students to the study of speech sounds and sound systems in human language. Emphasis is placed on articulatory phonetics, the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), phonological processes, and typical vs. atypical speech sound development. Students will learn to transcribe speech sounds using IPA, analyze phonological patterns, and identify speech sound errors. The course prepares SLPA students to assist in the assessment and treatment of speech sound disorders under the supervision of a licensed speech-language pathologist.
