SLP 204 : Communication Disorders in Diverse Populations
This course explores the impact of cultural, linguistic, socioeconomic, and individual diversity on the assessment and treatment of communication disorders. Emphasis is placed on understanding how communication differences and disorders manifest across diverse populations and on developing culturally responsive practices in speech-language pathology. Students will examine linguistic variations, cultural values, and potential barriers to service delivery, and will learn strategies for effective collaboration with clients, families, and interdisciplinary teams. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to support inclusive, ethical, and equitable speech-language services for individuals from all backgrounds.
