OTA 215 : The Psychiatric Environment and Group Process in O.T

This course is a study of abnormal behavior and related disorders commonly seen in occupational therapy as well as an introduction to the basic dynamics of the group process. The students will gain knowledge in observation skills, understand therapeutic use of self as related to occupation based activities as part of the therapeutic process in both individual and group interaction. Upon completion, students should be able to recognize practice models and settings in the mental health field, utilize diagnostic and statistical manuals, design a therapeutic group, understand how to communicate with and respond to patients with mental health disorders.
