Dual Enrollment/Dual Credit allows eligible high school students to take college courses while simultaneously enrolled in high school. Courses may be offered on a college campus, online, or at the high school. Students earn both high school and college credit for successfully completing courses.
Criteria for student eligibility includes:
- The student must have a 2.5 GPA or higher in completed high school courses. The GPA for those programs is 2.0.
- The student must have written approval of his/her counselor and principal.
- The student must be a rising 10th, 11th, or 12th grader.
- Students must have a qualifying Accuplacer or ACT score to be eligible for ENG 101 and MTH 100 or above.
The Accelerated High School program provides qualified high school students with the opportunity to earn college credit while still enrolled in high school. Unlike the Dual Enrollment program, courses taken through the Accelerated High School program award college credit only. Students do not receive high school credit for courses completed under this program.
Criteria for Accelerated student eligibility include:
- The student has completed the 10th grade.
- The student must have written approval of a secondary school official. Accelerated students enrolled in private, homeschool/private tutor, parochial, or church/religious secondary educational entities must be documented in writing by an appropriate secondary official. Approval from secondary school officials indicates that the student has demonstrated both academic readiness and social maturity.
- The student has completed the high school prerequisites for the courses in which he/she wants to enroll.
- The student must have a minimum cumulative (unweighted) high school grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Exceptions may be granted per program through ACCS waiver requests.
All students participating in accelerated coursework are considered Wallace State Community College students and are bound by the rules, regulations, and policies of the College and the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees.
